About Runaway Mine Train
About Runaway Mine Train
Runaway Mine Train at Alton Towers is a classic family coaster that has been running since 1992, themed to the Katanga Canyon area of the park. The ride is a gentle out-and-back with shallow drops, low top speed and no inversions - more a scenic train ride with a few thrills than a serious coaster. Lap restraints rather than over-the-shoulder, so accessible to most riders.
Mine Train is one of the most popular family rides in the park. Queues stay under 20 minutes on weekdays and rarely top 35 even on peak weekends. A solid first 'big' coaster for kids, and a nostalgic ride for adults who visited as children.
Runaway Mine Train has averaged about 13 minutes of wait over recent weeks, and is typically busiest around 11:00 and quietest around 19:00. Over the last two weeks it has been open around 96% of the park's operating hours. It's typically quietest on Thursdays and busiest on Saturdays.
