About Th13teen
Th13teen at Alton Towers is a family thrill coaster opened in 2010 in the Dark Forest. The layout is a fairly tame steel coaster on the surface, but mid-ride the train enters a darkened crypt where the entire track section drops vertically while the train is still on it - a freefall surprise inside an enclosed building. Top speed 41 mph, ride time about 90 seconds.
Th13teen's surprise factor only works once, but the freefall section is genuinely unsettling on first ride. Queues are usually moderate at 20-40 minutes. The lower height requirement makes it a good step-up coaster for younger riders graduating from family rides.
