About The Swarm
About The Swarm
The Swarm at Thorpe Park is the UK's first wing coaster, opened in 2012 with riders seated on either side of the track instead of above or below it. The layout features a 127-foot drop, five inversions, and several near-miss elements where the train passes within feet of static scenery (a crashed aeroplane, a downed church bell). Top speed 62 mph, ride duration about 90 seconds.
The Swarm is most intense on the outermost seats where you fly through the inversions with nothing visibly supporting you. Queues are usually 30-50 minutes on busy days, less mid-week. The single-rider line, when open, is one of the fastest at the park.
The Swarm has averaged about 16 minutes of wait over recent weeks, and is typically busiest around 10:00 and quietest around 18:00. Over the last two weeks it has been open around 93% of the park's operating hours. It's typically quietest on Wednesdays and busiest on Saturdays.
